The University traces its educational roots all the way back to 1824, when it opened as one of the first mechanics’ institutes. Bolton was granted university status in 2005 and building on our proud heritage, the University has an ambitious strategy, and it aims to be the UK’s first teaching intensive, research informed University.
The University is based on a modern, compact, town-centre campus, which has seen significant investment in the past 10 years. We have a global student body of more than 11,000 students and employ more than 1000 staff.
